Make a wish!!

Like most things in life, not all days are created equal. Some days go by so fast, like vacation days filled with fun activities and planning, while others drag on for eternity like Mondays with no end in sight, lingering on forever. While life goes on swinging between the fun and drab, a few special days get sprinkled in like that of birthdays or anniversaries, promotion days and such.

Talking of birthdays though, when we are younger, they are always super special and exciting for one and all, with practically no deviations to the law. The story turns though when we get older and like everything else birthdays also get this complicated makeover. Bear with me while I explain my point; some people will go all out on their birthdays, have big blowouts, be surrounded with friends and family including even shoutouts from the little car roofs if warranted, in their inebriated states. Believe me I know this breed well, heck I am this breed, apologies in advance for the ruckus!

On the other hand we have some who take life and its decisions with some contemplation and they come to this very real realization that not only them but thousands other were born perhaps right to the second when they were, denoting birthdays truly un-special. Therefore they treat birthdays as such with a quiet recognition and a mellow/realistic celebration with enjoyment matching to this ideology.

I am too young and too ill informed to tell you which of these approaches is the best and like we say “to each its own”. One cannot help but  wonder why birthdays bring out such conflicting ideologies as age passes us by as I have not met a kid till now who is anything other than jubilated on their own birthday. Maybe it’s the number we reach in age and the fact that we are not all privy to the fountain of youth and as nature intended are, I don’t want to say aging but maturing away from taut skin and the sprightly exuberance of youth.

It could also be that as birthdays serve as reminders of time passing and its hard when one has not achieved the self-set timelines of our careers or personally, leading to a feeling of inadequacy which becomes hard to shake on birthdays leading to again , many a dissatisfied customer. Well, whatever the reasons maybe, it seems to me such a waste to not enjoy your birthday to the fullest, to be too old or jaded to not be able to feel in our heart the joy we felt as kids distributing the two-bit toffees to everyone in school.

Last word on the matter would be, let us not leave any opportunity to make ourselves feel special because there have been accomplishments in the past year some awesome, some mediocre but there is only one birthday in a year, while there are many Mondays to feel bad about our life and its issues but Hey…What do I know!!
